The Beatles 1, includes “Yellow Submarine”, “All You Need Is Love”, “Hey Jude”
Record Label:
Capitol
Year It Was Released
: November 14, 2000

Rock and Roll
Q&A:
I learned about this artist from my parents, who loved listening to them when they were younger. I started to listen to them when I heard my parents play their CD in the house. Last year, my dad and I went shopping for Christmas presents for my mother. My dad was looking for a CD for my mom. I suggested the Beatles to my father. We looked at all the Beatles’ CDs and found the Beatles 1 at the store. I would recommend this album if one loved the Beatles and wanted a CD with their greatest hits. This would be the CD to buy since it has their best songs on there. In music, I appreciate almost any type of music. Mostly I listen to rock and country music. In rock music I like to listen to The Beach Boys, Relient K, Beatles, U2, Green Day, and many more. I like Big and Rich, Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in the country music genre. I listen to my music on a CD or a MP3. I like the Mp3 because it can hold more music than a CD. I do own a CD player from a long time ago. The CD player may not be as good, but I use it when going camping. I do not like to use my MP3 when I know it could get messed up. I buy my music from Walmart or Best Buy. Most of the time, my family and friends give it to me for a birthday present or a Christmas gift.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Movie Title: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Movie Studio: Paramount Pictures
Movie Studio’s Parent Company:
Viacom
Other Movies Made by That Studio: Forrest Gump, The Godfather, Titanic
Producer: John Hughes, Tom Jacobson, Michael Chinich
Director: John Hughes
Writer: John Hughes
Stars: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones, Jennifer Grey
Q& A: The movie is about a high school senior, named Ferris Bueller, who is pretending to be sick because he wants to skip a day of school. This day, he persuades his girlfriend Slone Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye to take the day off with him. Ferris convinces Cameron to take his father’s Ferrari with them for an adventure to downtown Chicago. The film goes on about what Ferris does with his friends, and trying not to get caught by the school’s Dean Edward Rooney, his sister Jennie, and his parents. The summer of my junior year, I was driving with several of my friends to Florida. My friend Megan picked up the DVD from the floor of the car that we were riding in. She was reading the back description of what this movie was about. I have never seen the film. When she read the back of the movie case, she made the movie sound amusing and I wanted to see it. We watched the movie and I loved it. The movie was really interesting because Ferris talks to the audience, and not just the characters who he is with. Ferris is the main character and the narrator of the story. I love this movie because the film is funny and makes me realize at times to not take life too seriously. I would recommend this movie to someone because it is a great film, and it is funny to watch Ferris try not to get caught on his day off school. Trailer:

Controversies on Magazines Images

One of the biggest controversies in mass media are the photos in magazines. In fashion booklets, there have been issues of retouching images of the celebrities or models. A picture can be photo shoped with peoples’ heads on someone’s’ else body; changing the person’s facial or body features. For example, the magazine called REDBOOK, showed in class, had changed Faith Hill’s hair and color of skin. The original magazine display was Faith Hill with lighter skin with dark blonde hair, but when the gazette came out they photo shoped it for Faith Hill and made her tanner and lighter blonde hair. In fashion pamphlets, women are not the only one who are retouch but men are too. On a different publication, they photo shoped Andy Roddrick with more muscles than he had in the original photo. Not only do booklets changed images of body and facial features of celebrities, but they also change pictures by adding or deleting people in them. For example, in a booklet, they photo enhance Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie together even though they were really not there. It was from two separate pictures at two different times.I believe on this particular controversy issue, magazines should not retouch photos because it is not the real models or celebrities. It gives the reader a fake person to believe of what he or she looks like. The images are added on to other pictures showing two people who are together that are not really together. On this issue, I conclude magazines need to change how they do their photos. In magazines articles, they make the reader feel like the pictures represent the story. A picture is worth a thousand words, and if one changes a picture then the story changes.I am very passionate on this controversy because retouching photos means they are not real. The images are telling lies on how people really are or making up stories that are false in the article. For the fashion magazines, I believe real woman should be displayed on their covers than being fake. For teenagers, they give phony advertisements of having to feel like they have to look like the celebrities or models. This controversy exposes how the fashion world views people, especially woman who want the perfect body. Magazine models are usually 5’11 and weigh 120 lbs. The average American woman is 5’4 and weighs 144 lbs. Another thing is it makes teenagers feel they have to lose weight and make them want to eat less and have less nutrition. Teenagers feel like that is how they are supposed to look, even though they look fine. When I want to read something, I want to know the real story with pictures, to help illustrate the story. If the pictures are not real then why read the story? They have no proof of this event or person being real. If the magazines keep retouching photos, then they would start to lose the reader’s interest because no one would know the true story.

Entertainment Weekly Magazine

Title: Entertainment Weekly
Publisher: Time Warner
The type of magazine: Consumer magazine
The type of consumer magazine: Entertainment
Subscription: no
Q&A: I found the magazine through my aunt, Jackie. It fits into the category because it talks about entertainment news, gives behind the scenes scoops, and has interviews and photo spreads of celebrities. It speaks about the latest movies, TV shows, CDs, and books that come out. This publication also describes the things behind the scenes of some movies and TV shows and about the set, or with celebrities that are in each movie or TV show. This magazine I have reviewed has featured photos of celebrities like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon and many more. It also has Josh Brolin. In this issue, there is a meeting with Patrick Dempsey, who chats about his life and the next movie he is going to make. Also, there are car ads for Camaros and Cadillacs. There are ads for DVDs too; for example, there is an advertisement of a three-disc deluxe edition of Al Jolson, “The Jazz Singer”. This booklet also has posters of the new movies that are coming out into theaters. I am a target for this publication because I am interested in some of the things in the ads and articles. The celebrities’ DVD’s, TV shows, and movies are what interested me. Patrick Dempsey is also on the cover. It does impact me because I like him; I think he is a great actor and really cute. I would recommend this magazine because, if a person wants to hear the latest news on entertainment, this would be a good resource to use.

Journalism Program of the Year with Professor Julie Beard

At the very beginning, I expected Professor Beard’s speech to be uninteresting because she was talking about the Journalism program. I am not interested in that type of Mass Communication. In her speech, she surprised me; she got my attention when she started talking about news values, or what defines a story, and what stories to pick with a limited amount of space. Besides writing stories for a newspaper or television programs, one has to find time for advertising too. In order to pick out the stories, one has to use good judgment. I learned that there are characteristics such as impact, timeliness, prominence, proximity, conflict, human emotion, visual opportunity, and the bizarre and unusual when television or newspapers inform us of the news. She believes the more news values a story has, the more likely it should be the one picked. After she explained what news values were, she gave the class an activity on how to pick a story. The exercise showed us how to use news values by picking out the top three newsworthy stories out of the four she gave us. The activity was really fun, and it was very interesting to see my classmates’ and my points of view. Professor Beard’s speech was really surprising because I thought it would be all about Journalism, but she ended up teaching me something I did not know about, something I would need when I began working with the media. She made her presentation very interesting for everyone intrigued by Journalism and working in other fields of the media.

Later on, Edward confesses his secret to her. Throughout the tale, Bella will have to deal with risk after risk upon knowing Edward’s secret.
Type of Book: The book is a trade book.
Type of Reader: The type of reader I am a Bibliophiles readers.

Q&A: I found the book through my friend Megan. This book impacted me because, for me, it was not a usual, normal book I would read. It is a fantasy book, and after I read it, I started to like it. After I finished the first two chapters of the book, it changed my opinion. The book also gave me a different way of looking upon things, especially about love. I would recommend this book because it is not a normal love story. I would also say it is not fully about romantic love, but also about family love, this author has put amazing work into this story. Her Twilight series is really great to read. I would recommend her because her style of writing is different from most authors. There is an underlying message in the book. The message is about love and doing whatever it takes for it, not only romantic love but also love for the family. Making sacrifices for a person one truly cares about is worth fighting for. Stephenie Meyer shows many examples throughout the book of the risks Bella takes for her family and for the love for Edward.
